Authorized Training Centers (ATC) are granted the right to deliver The Difficult Airway Course: EMS™, Essentials of Advanced Airway Management™ and Fundamentals of Airway Management™ to students within their defined region. They can offer these courses as part of an accredited initial training program for paramedics, EMTs or allied health providers, or as continuing education for their employees and other providers from outside of their organization. A one-time start-up fee and on-going per-head fees apply.

Organizations can choose to offer the courses only to their own students and/or their own employees. These private authorized training centers (PATC) pay a lower start-up fee. PATCs must meet all of the requirements of an Authorized Training Center.

Multi-state organizations are encouraged to apply for this opportunity and should contact First Airway to discuss the details of the arrangement, which may vary from the details outlined in this document.

An organization that wishes to become an Authorized Training Center or a Private Authorized Training Center must meet at least one of the following requirements before applying:

1. Be accredited by CoAEMSP (or with application submitted/pending)
2. Be approved by the state to offer initial EMS training or continuing education
3. Be an American Heart Association Training Center authorized to offer ACLS or PALS
4. Be an Authorized Training Center of other nationally or internationally recognized medical programs/organizations (e.g., CCEMTP, ITLS, European Resuscitation Council, UK Resuscitation Council, Korean Resuscitation Council, etc.)
5. Hold Organizational Accreditation from CAPCE for a minimum of six years

In addition, prospective Training Centers must:

1. Have an excellent overall reputation in EMS and/or critical care education and practice. Preference will be granted to organizations with demonstrated airway management expertise and/or commitment to airway management education.
2. Have the necessary infrastructure, resources and competencies to run the courses successfully, including:
   • Human resources – faculty, staff and administration
   • Facility and equipment resources – classroom and breakout space, audio/visual equipment, airway devices, manikins, and simulators
   • Organizational capabilities – registration, course management, data collection and reporting, materials distribution, communication
   • Marketing resources– positive reputation, advertising opportunities, networks, communication vehicles
   • Financial resources – must be a going concern with evidence of financial stability
3. Appoint a Local Course Director (LCD) who serves as the main contact for all course matters. The LCD may designate one or more faculty members as Associate LCDs to assist with the course director responsibilities. The LCD must attend The Difficult Airway Course: EMS™ and participate in on-site/on-line orientation session.
4. Complete an on-line application.
5. Provide an organizational commitment letter (e.g., letter from CEO, Dean, President, Medical Director, etc.).
6. Be willing and able to enter into a legal agreement.

Authorized Training Centers will be expected to:

1. Ensure that their faculty members take The Difficult Airway Course: EMS (locally or away) prior to teaching.
2. Fund the participation of one faculty member from the Regional Training Center for the first course offered at the ATC.
3. Provide to each student:
   • The Difficult Airway Course: EMS
     • Walls Manual of Emergency Airway Management (print or online/downloadable version)
     • The Airway Card: EMS™
     • Certificate/wallet card
   • Essentials of Advanced Airway Management
     • No manual requirement at this time; subject to change
     • The Airway Card designated for this course
     • Certificate/wallet card
   • Fundamentals of Airway Management
     • No manual requirement at this time; subject to change
     • The Airway Card designated for this course
     • Certificate/wallet card
4. Provide: a) appropriate course venue and AV equipment, and b) training equipment and supplies, as outlined in the agreement.
5. Provide sufficient numbers of instructors to achieve a faculty to student ratio in all hands-on stations (e.g., Code Airway™ stations, skills stations.) of 1:8 with the goal being at or below 1:6.
6. Train a minimum number of students as specified in the agreement.
7. Not enroll physicians or nurse anesthetists unless they are actively engaged in the management or oversight of EMS.
8. Ensure the availability of a physician or CRNA during each course. This person could be on-site or on-call (available electronically or by phone) to address questions requiring their involvement.
9. Provide all data and information required of our accrediting organizations (e.g., CAPCE data, evaluation results and other data per the agreement).
10. Participate in periodic faculty and LCD meetings and training sessions. Airway Management Education Center will employ on-line video conferencing whenever possible to minimize cost for participants.
11. Fund a periodic audit by Airway Management Education Center or Regional Training Center personnel no more than once during the term of the agreement.

Airway Management Education Center will:

• Provide state-of-the-art, evidence-based, and user-friendly curriculum and materials; and continuously improve and add course offerings.
• Promote all public courses via a course listing on www.theairwaysite.com.
• Provide web-based technology to facilitate course management and administration.
• Assign ATC regions in such a way that facilitates the success of the Authorized Training Centers. The definition (size and boundaries) of a region is determined through discussions with the Regional Course Director.

Note: Private Authorized Training Centers (PATC) are not assigned a region because they only teach their own students or employees at a single location. One or more PATCs may reside inside the region of an ATC.
